Post-Master's Program

This non-degree program leads to New York state professional certification in literacy聽for all grades, PK-Grade 12.

Program is Ideal For

Someone with a bachelor's and master's degree and New York state teaching certification who wants to add certification in literacy.


What to Expect

  • Complete the program in as few as three semesters.聽Schedule: days and times.
  • Engage in 60 hours of field work across three courses. You will complete hours during supervised experiences, as well as campus-based practicum in our聽Marie Callahan Reading Clinic.聽School聽placement may be at your place of employment.
  • Complete coursework to become eligible for New York State certification in Literacy聽for all grades, PK-Grade 12.

15 credit hours: Up to six credit hours may be transferred in with program director approval if taken within the past five years and if appropriate to the certification program.

  • LTED 600 - Foundations of Literacy
  • LTED 604 - Literacy Methods Across the Curriculum
  • LTED 643 - Introduction to Literacy Assessment, Evaluation & Instruction
  • LTED 644 - Advanced Literacy Assessment, Evaluation & Instruction
  • LTED 645 - Campus-Based Practicum

Certification tests to be completed during the program:

  • Content Specialty Test (CST) - Literacy

Requirements

  1. Certification: You must hold a teaching certification in New York State聽
  2. For the literacy post-master's certification, complete the聽.

Application requirements include:

  • A completed online application
  • Professional statement as described in the application
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended
  • Copy of verification of teacher certification from the TEACH website
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Resume

  • Fall term: rolling through Aug. 15
  • Spring term:聽rolling through Jan. 1
