Biography

Background and expertise

My clinical work includes music therapy in mental health in inpatient and outpatient聽settings across the lifespan and music therapy with adults with intellectual and聽developmental disabilities. I have been a music therapy educator for over 20 years聽teaching music therapy students and supervising their practicum. My supervision聽experiences expanded my clinical expertise to include music therapy with older adults聽and music therapy for students receiving special education, including early intervention.聽I draw from my clinical and supervisor work to bring methods and approaches to music聽therapy to life in the classroom. I have completed training in neurologic music therapy,聽NICU music therapy, and music therapy at the end of life.

Passion for Teaching

I teach undergraduate and graduate music therapy students in a variety of clinical聽methods, theory and practice, and research courses. My passion is facilitating student鈥檚聽understanding of the connections among theory, research, practice, and their lived聽experiences. As music therapists, we bring our music, ourselves, and our clinical聽expertise into our work with those we treat. Students would likely report that I talk about聽the brain and research frequently!

Why Naz?

I joined the music therapy faculty because of the outstanding music therapy programs.聽This is a welcoming environment with passionate, talented, skilled professors who聽embrace one another and students into community. The opportunities for collaboration聽are numerous with the many healthcare profession students sharing time and space聽with music therapists in the amazing York Wellness and Rehabilitation Institute. The聽question of why should I study music therapy at Naz is a moot point, why would you not聽come to Naz with the many opportunities that await?
